How to Have your Beach and Rent it too
![]() |
The dream of owning your own San Diego beach get-away house is fading for many because of the ever increasing value of a piece of land. But with careful consideration and a little flexibility, you can use rental income to subsidize your beach home purchase.
Beach vacation homes and condos in San Diego are in high demand and can be easily rented out for $2000 - $5000 per week in the summer, depending upon size and location. Winter rentals are a little spottier and command a lower rent. And in some cases, you can buy a duplex, and rent the bottom floor unit out, while keeping the upstairs unit for yourself.
Prices of beach properties can be high - $700,000 and up – but with rental income subsidizing at least some of the mortgage, you’ll find that your beach getaway is more within your reach than you thought. And though prices have been a little soft, they’re not making any more beach property, and it will surely be in demand for years to come.
